BIOGRAPHY
Phillip McMullen (b.1981) is a composer, conductor, educator, singer and pianist in Western New York. He is currently choral director at Silver Creek Central Schools near Buffalo, New York.
Mr. McMullen has been active as a performer throughout New York State where he has sung with Syracuse Opera, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He regularly performs with Shakespeare on the Lake, Dunkirk NY. As a conductor, he has worked with ensembles through SUNY Fredonia, Trinity Masterworks Choir, Chautauqua Youth Choir, and most recently held the position of music director at Trinity Episcopal Church. In 2016 he founded Trinity Masterworks Choir in Fredonia, New York and currently serves as artistic director for the organization. TMC was founded to reconnect those who had lost their love of music-making and has changed the lives of members by allowing them to regain their confidence in creating music together. A proponent of new music, Mr. McMullen primarily programs the work of living composers. Mr. McMullen's mission as a composer is to create music which is artistically sound, engaging for the performers and audience, and academically valid. His experience working with choirs at all levels from early elementary to advanced collegiate in combination with his own vocal studies have had a profound effect on his writing as has intensive study of the works of living composers. Mr. McMullen holds degrees from the State University of New York at Fredonia in Music Education with a vocal concentration (B.A.) and Music Theory and Composition with a cognate in secondary choral education (M.M). His primary professors of instruction were Daniel Ihasz (voice), Dr. Gerald Gray (conducting), Dr. Vernon Huff (conducting), and Dr. Robert Deemer (composition). |
